Mark Cavendish, aboard his fi’zi:k Arione saddle , ended his road season in style on Sunday by winning the final stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour. It was the 31-year-old Briton’s second stage victory of the race after he beat Giacomo Nizzolo in a direct sprint for the line. Team Sky’s Elia Viviani, who had beaten Cavendish to win the Rio Olympics Omnium gold ( fi’zi:k Arione 00 saddle ) finished third.

Cav’s Team Dimension Data put in a huge effort over the 143km stage and held a high pace as the riders made their way round the 26 laps of the stunning Yas Marina Formula One circuit, with Dimension Data’s Mark Renshaw ( fi’zi:k Aliante R1 saddle ) rounding the final corner in the lead. As the world has seen numerous times over the years, Cav soon followed and did the rest, confirming that he is the world’s greatest sprinter.

‘My teammates controlled the group really well the whole day,’ Cavendish commented after the race. ‘I got an incredible lead-out; Mark Renshaw was very calm going into the finale. I just had to jump.’

The general classification saw Tanel Kangert retain his 21sec lead over Team Sky’s Nicolas Roche ( fi’zi:kArione R1 saddle ) for victory, though Roche can be happy with his work over four tough stages in what’s his final race for Team Sky. Roche will race for fi’zi:k-ridingBMC Racing in 2017.

Elsewhere, Cannondale-Drapac’s Davide Villella ( fi’zi:kArione R1 saddle ) took his first victory of 2016 inwinning the Japan Cup. The 25-year-old Italian executed a smart move on the last of 14 laps to beat Orica-BikeExchange’s Christopher Juul Jensen (fi’zi:k saddles) by 6secs. Jensen’s teammate Robert Power (fi’zi:ksaddles) finished third.
