Two-time Olympic gold medalist, repeat European and World Champion—and potential new ultra runner and gravel racer? Having stepped away from his awe-inspiring 18-year career as a triathlete, Alistair Brownlee is by no means finished with endurance sports. Enjoy our short conversation with Alistair as we discuss saddle choice, bike fit, and what shape his next athletic endeavors may take.
- fizik Can you share with us an anecdote related to your career as a triathlete?
- AB When I was 17, my coach, Malcom, told me that I should believe I could win the Olympics in London, but only by a stride. It was the best advice I ever received.
- fizik Which saddle did you use for long-distance races? How did you choose it?
- AB I use the Transiro Aeris Long Distance. I love it. It is the only saddle that feels great in an aggressive TT position and sat upright to climb. I chose it by trial and error. Saddles are very important to me because some irritate my hamstring insertion at the ischial tuberosity, but the Aeris is great.
- fizik Did you get support from a bike fitter? How often do you reconfirm or update your position/fit on the bike?
- AB I have had support from bike fitters in the past. I haven’t changed the fundamentals of my position for a few years. Every bike I have is set up identically. The only exception is the TT bike—I have continuously adjusted the position for aerodynamic gains.

- fizik Any plans for the future?
- AB Yes, I have lots of plans! I have been an endurance athlete for my whole life, and there are so many events out there I have always dreamed of doing but not had the chance. Now is the time. Extreme triathlons, gravel racing, MTB racing, ultra running and anything adventurous!
