A stormproof shoe for foul-weather adventures off road
Much like a do-it-all-mountain bike, Ergolace shoes are pure versatility in both function and form. Whether it’s venturing out on an alpine tour, sessioning trails or simply escaping for an after-work ride, these shoes beg for adventure. And with an updated flat-pedal-specific sole, our Ergolace Flat shoes offer the perfect setup for any traditional or e-mountain biker ready to head off the grid. Additionally, Ergolace feature minimal foot roll and a widened bottom to provide plenty of contact with wide platform pedals, allowing for a more evenly spread load.
Wet-weather GORE-TEX protection
In its GORE-TEX configuration, riders can now extend their thirst of adventure thanks to the triple-layered waterproof, breathable membrane: adding protection from the elements while keeping feet dry. Ready for the rough stuff, the hardwearing ripstop woven fabric uppers resist abrasion and tearing while a PU-laminated toecap and side reinforcements add further protection and durability. For increased comfort, the Ergolace pattern cradles the foot, securing the fit with an ergonomic lace-up closure.
Slim fit, confident feel
We designed the silhouette specifically to reduce bulk and avoid the puffy look of many mountain biking shoes, meaning Ergolace is ready to blend in with civilization when the backcountry missions are complete.
The X2 Flat outsole: trail-ready versatility
The X2 outsole enhances the versatility of our all-mountain shoe. Engineered to deliver an optimal balance between efficient pedaling performance and flexibility for comfort and control on and off the bike, the X2 outsole keeps riders covered for all those hike-a-bike moments. The compressed EVA midsole provides stability and cushioning while the Vibram rubber tread ensures grip and traction, whatever the conditions underfoot. The directional lug pattern is designed for confident footing; with the right spacing and depth to bite into softer soil, it’s made from a unique compound that’s ideal for gripping slick rocks while hiking. This flat-pedal version has a low-profile tapered tread pattern positioned at the mid-foot that allows for an immediate connection and optimal mechanical interface with the pedal pins.

awesome shoes.
The TERRA ERGOLACE GTX FLAT however is pretty tight. So as of now after a few hours my feet hurt. Since my feet are quit wide this has an additional disadvantage. Nevertheless the quality and performance of the shoes is very impressive. Especially the shoelaces since they are placed asymmetrical in order to maintain distance to the chain and cranks.

It's early days - I've only worn my new Ergolace GTX flats for two rides, but so far so very good. In terms of comfort, the "lopsided" laces and shoe tongue need to be positioned carefully, but once sorted and laced up they are comfortable. The shoes are quite stiff compared to, say, Five-Tens, so I wouldn't want to walk too far in them, but that has an advantage once riding. The gore-tex waterproofing works well, and combined with the fairly thick shoe body, my feet remained dry and toasty despite current UK rain and mud. That said, in heavy rain, water does eventually run down your leg and into the shoe; combining long trousers with ankle boots would probably avoid this, but for now I can't wear ankle boots after a bad ankle break (they cause it to swell). The soul grips well on both my Stamp 11s and Hope F-20s. Overall - given I can't wear ankle boots, these shoes are great winter/wet-weather riding shoes. But assuming you don't have any ankle problems, I'd recommend one of the gore-tax MTB ankle boots out there.
