VENTO POWERSTRAP R2 AEROWEAVE is a pure racing shoe: the lightest and most breathable model in the fizik performance range, engineered with an innovative high tenacity net-like structure which is coupled with our stiffest carbon sole.
Aeroweave
The pursuit of reducing weight and increasing ventilation, while maintaining support and protection led our designers and engineers to the development of a new material used in the upper. Called Aeroweave, it’s an advanced woven fabric that interlaces lightweight nylon fibers with filaments of thermoplastic polymer.
This blend of threads creates a material with an open, net-like pattern that is extremely airy, yet highly resistant and resilient. The Vento Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave’s upper is so intensely vented that the riders’ socks are visible through it. Aeroweave is a malleable material, and moves to effectively cradle the foot, but its tenacity delivers the support and containment required for a high performance racing shoe.
Powerstrap
While most traditional Velcro closures just pull together two sides of the shoe’s upper, in the Vento Powerstrap configuration a ribbon wraps around the foot, providing secure containment using just two straps. The instep and the midfoot are separately adjustable for customized fit and compression. These straps have been streamlined to make them even lighter and stronger.
R2 OUTSOLE
Vento Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave also features a whole new outsole: the R2 outsole’s engineered carbon fiber layup saves weight and delivers increased stiffness. With an index of 10, the R2 is the stiffest outsole in the fizik range. A wide vent inlet and deep internal channelling provide a cooling airflow, contributing to temperature management. The cleat positioning is slightly further rear-wards compared to traditional settings, to optimize pedalling efficiency and reduce knee compression, especially well suited to very aggressive, forward aero positions.

Absolutely love the Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave Vento shoes. Comfortable, light & the powerstrap closure does not produce any hotspots so far on my indoor trainer. The only thing that I should have done differently is order a full size smaller than my Giro Prolight Techlace instead of just a half size that was recommended via other reviews. These particular shoes do run big.

The shoe is as airy as I hoped it would be. Don't make my feet sweat like that. Unfortunately, it's not entirely good. It is conceivable that a size or half a size smaller would have been a suitable size. I checked that the insole is the same size as my old shoe, but the heel design of this one is different, so my heel slides back in it, so it's a little big.
Unfortunately, the middle of the sole is pressing both of my feet. This will not change at all, the material of the shoe is broken.
The mesh part of the upper stretches very precisely and comfortably to the shape of my feet. The Velcro is easy to tighten. Unfortunately, the part of the upper velcro where the velcro is not sewn is short, and it is difficult for the thicker part to fit through the hole. Unfortunately, I have to squeeze through there, because I wouldn't be able to take the shoes on or off. This is a bit confusing.
The soles of the shoes are quite stiff and I feel like I can exert more power compared to my older shoes. I can only imagine this, unfortunately I can't measure it.

Excellent shoe; difficult to adjust straps on the fly so consider that if buying for race event use. Excellent for hot weather environment. Very stiff sole, but feels lightweight and airy. About 1/2 size larger than other mfg's I've bought (Pearl Izumi, Specialized, Shimano, Sidi) so consider a 1/2-size down and try on carefully before mounting cleats or riding.

It's hard to imagine a more perfect cycling shoe. The near weightless upper seems to only have one mission in life - hold the carbon sole to your foot. It's profoundly comfortable and light, yet offers a solid surface to engage the pedal for long rides. What more can you ever wish for in a shoe?

Only had my first ride this morning. Fit is excellent with sizing as expected. The straps are brilliant with no chance of coming loose or breaking in the future. Very stiff sole. Up there with the best other carbon soles on the market. Although the ride was not super hot, I suspect that the aeroweave will work well, but I don't get hot feet normally anyway. The shoes are super light as well. Lighter than my Sidi Air carbons, which is saying something.
